Supervision for professional and personal development
- Do you experience problems with certain clients?
- Do you feel stuck in your business?
- Are you unhappy with your business or practice but unsure why?
Supervision provides the space to explore any issues you have around your business, your practice, your clients or your life.
Supervision literally means 'overview' and is a quality of looking. It is an attempt to see 'what is' rather than 'what should be' (because we like it that way).
The supervisor is not a judge but more like a partner in a dance. There is no right or wrong apart from your own set of morals. Answers to questions will not be given as such, but in the supervisory process you will be guided to finding solutions yourself, thus allowing profound changes to happen. Confidentiality is a key issue in this and will be respected unless legal requirements have to be fulfilled (which will be discussed in individual cases).
You may have written a business plan, but, within that, did you consider your personal development (being a professional as well as a human being)?
Many professions and employers require their members and employees to work towards Continuous Professional Development (CPD). This can become an empty exercise if it turns into 'hoops', which you are made to jump.
I want to encourage you to consider CPD as not just 'professional' but also 'personal' development. After all, didn't you choose your profession for reasons of personal development?
CPD should, literally, be 'continuous', therefore progressive and looking into the future. However, a lot can be learned from the past and the present.
Planning is an integral part of CPD but it becomes meaningless without review (What happened and what didn't?) and reflection (Why did or didn't something happen?). Review and reflection then make CPD not linear but cyclical. Going back to look at the past can help to understand the present and the future.
There are many ways of review and reflection. A great one is to use a reflective journal, self-reflection in other words. However, this can easily become too cosy or may be dropped due to its 'lesser' importance in our busy lives. An external, objective observer can provide the necessary stimulus and space to highlight and challenge, like a reflective mirror or a sounding board.
I am a fully qualified and registered homeopath and have received supervision as part of my profession. Both CPD and supervision are requirements of my professional body. I have been working as a supervisor for homeopathy students for several years and continually develop my role as supervisor by attending training courses etc.
I am a supervisor approved by the Society of Homeopaths and practice supervision in accordance with their Code of Ethics & Practice for Supervisors. (Please check the Society of Homeopaths website for details.)
As a trained supervisor I see the principles of CPD and supervision as universal and equally applicable to any profession or person.
I am available for supervision sessions in Carmarthen or in a space of your choice (travel expenses will be charged, please contact me for details).
Supervision costs £30 for a regular one-hour-session. Any additional need will be discussed individually. I provide receipts and certificates of attendance on request.

Nux vomicaFrom the first CPD session, Petra's clarity in her manner and presence invited me to listen to my inner voice, where I was and whether I was where I wanted to be. Talking through feelings and arising issues with Petra has led to the useful practice of a 'constant companion on my shoulder' to remind me and allow me to take a step aside, become aware and assess in my daily life as a mother, wife, artist and businesswoman. It has given me a sense of space to feel a parallel open channel of awareness/listening into my life. Recognising shifts and developments in how I am with myself and how I inhabit my life has helped with a sense of movement and growth.
